Submission Guidelines

Epicurean Traveler publishes feature stories on travel with an emphasis on the unique foods and beverages associated with a particular place. Subjects may include local recipes, farms, farmers markets, wineries, distilleries, food and wine related festivals etc. While our readers may enjoy simple food from fresh ingredients, they also appreciate dining in fine restaurants, and upscale travel destinations, luxury cruise/yachting vacations, resorts, spas, B&B's, and cooking school vacations.

   • All stories are individually negotiated and paid upon publication.

  • We prefer email submissions. We are not responsible for unsolicited manuscripts or photos and will return them only if accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope with proper affixed postage.

  • Include sample clips of published material.

  • Articles should be 900 to 1,500 words; full travel features up to 2,000 words with photos. Recipes are usually included.

  •   Most articles are original and unpublished, though we do accept second serial rights if the

subject is right for the magazine.

  • The story must be available by email, CD or zip.

  • Include name, address and phone/fax/e-mail numbers on manuscript.

For Feature Stories:

  1.   We adhere to the Society of American Travel Writers code of ethics.

  2.   We are looking for consumer information, no overly adjective-laden copy.

  3.   Details are important. Focus on specifics that illustrate the whole. This is true of photos, too. Crowds can be boring; individuals

    seldom are.

  4.   Tell us about an activity or destination that is new or out of the ordinary. The history of a destination is important but usually

secondary. Keep it brief. There are exceptions. Sometimes the history is the story. In that case, make it come to life. Anecdotes

    and  quotes are particularly helpful.

  5.   Don't sugar coat an experience or location. The hassles are important information, too. Often the most trying experiences make

    for the best stories.

  6.   Include sidebar information at the bottom of the story such as how to get there, where to stay,   must activities, entry requirements,

    currency, climate, etc.

Photos:

We prefer digital photos, but will accept transparencies or B&W and color prints.

Edit heavily. Send us a selection of half-dozen or so of your best shots.

Include photo credits and caption materials.

Good quality tourist bureau or other handout photos are welcome.
