Gaylen Andrews:

Gaylen has co-authored medical texts focusing on the diet and nutrition, and co-founded The Practical Gourmet in 1982, the first publication to adapt recipes for people with dietary and health concerns. She has also authored a series of exclusive reports published by Gourmet Newsletter Associates, including New Ways with Fruit and Secrets of Cooking for Two.

     Restaurant food critic and former contributing editor to Better Business Travel, Gaylen has professionally judged numerous food and recipe competitions, including the NASFT Fancy Food Show in Manhattan.

Ellen Barone:

An accomplished independent photographer-writer, Ellen’s written about crossing the Sahara on camel; fine dining in exotic Marrakech; expedition cruising in Central America; Irish Cuisine, Hidden New Mexico; and much more, each flavored with personality, passion, perspective, and a strong sense of place. Her photography has appeared in National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Condé Nast Traveler, Islands, The Los Angeles Times Sunday Travel Section, Lonley Planet, Spa, and a wide variety of regional, national and international publications.

      She’s penned weekly newspaper travel columns, contributed self-illustrated magazine features, co-founded the successful travel editorial agency International Media Group, and authors two popular self-syndicated online columns: ‘gadget girl’ and ‘steals & deals,’ offering advice and information for travelers.

Dan Clarke:

The ever-dapper Dan Clarke has had articles published in too many wine and food publications to mention. He is currently the editor/publisher of California Wine and Food magazine. You can subscribe to his online magazine for free at www.californiawineandfood.com.

 

Scott Clemens, Editor in Chief / Publisher:

Over the past 30 years as a writer, photographer and editor Scott Clemens has toured the world writing about food, wine and travel destinations. His photographs have graced the covers of more than three dozen magazines and books, and his work has appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers including Chevron USA Odyssey, The New York Times, Ploughshares, Practical Winery & Vineyard, Vintage, Wine Business Monthly, Wine Country, Wine Country International, Wines & Vines, The Wine News, Wine Spectator, Winestate, Wine Times, and Wine World . He is a founding member of the Bon Appetit magazine Tasting Panel. He was formerly Editor / Publisher of Epicurean magazine, Managing Editor of The Food & Beverage Journal, Tastings Editor of Wine & Spirits magazine, and the wine columnist for The San Mateo Times.

   Scott has judged numerous national and international wine competitions. He is president of the Bay Area Wine Writers Council. His commentary can currently be seen on Epicurean.com and Epicurean-Traveler.com.

Karen Dardick:

Karen is a freelance writer with more than 200 articles published in magazines and newspapers throughout the United States . A native of New York City , she is a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University where she obtained her BSJ and MSJ degrees. She has also traveled extensively and enjoys fine food and wines.

 

Barbara Deal:

Since 1995, Barbara Deal has been the associate food editor and restaurant critic for The Practical Gourmet, a monthly publication (circa 1982) with a paid circulation of 235,000, providing “Healthy dining trends for the affluent traveler.” Ms. Deal is the official photographer of PG’s 2-5 Star Gold-Taste Dining Awards — a non-political rating service honoring very-good to outstanding upscale restaurants worldwide according to food quality, wine, service, and ambiance. She is also a contributing editor to our sister websites Epicurean-Traveler.com, and The Travel, Tourism & Hospitality Helpline.

     She has covered and attended several hands-on cooking classes, wine seminars, workshops, and schools including Peter Kump’s New York Cooking School and internationally acclaimed chef Roy Yamaguchi’s innovative Hawaiian Fusion cuisine at Roy’s restaurant in Tampa, Florida with chef Rand Packer.

Steve Dodds:

Steve, who has a degree in Journalism with Honors from the Univerisity of Texas at Austin, published and edited New Texas Magazine in Austin for 21 years. His latest project is a new online publication, Third Coast Travel, Food & Culture (ThirdCoastTravel.com). He is a travel writer and photographer and he handles assignments for Third Coast, The Practical Gourmet, and Epicurean-Traveler.com. Paul Etcheverry:

Paul has several interests and for the past 20 years has written about animation and jazz, as well as beer, coffee and tea for such publications as Bay Food;Wine & Spirits; Wine Country; The Food & Beverage Journal, and Epicurean.

Eric Gaudet

Eric is our Paris Correspondent. He has been a contributing editor to The Food & Beverage Journal, Epicurean, and Food & Beverage International, reporting on Parisian restaurants and wine bars. He also writes extensively for computer industry publications.

 

Susanna Gaertner

In addition to her Pilates and voice-over work, Susanna has been an Associate Publisher, a PR Director, and has written about everything from medicine to massage, from wine to  travel for magazines as diverse as Smithsonian, New York Magazine, New Woman (Australia), the Journal of Art, Art & Auction, the Sydney Morning Herald, the Express Times, and the Santa Cruz Sentinel. She has worked in Europe and Australia, and her facility in foreign languages has given her a unique perspective from which to write her food, wine and travel articles. Susanna would like to extend special thanks to her latest mentors, the teaching staff of the wine program at the CIA in St. Helena.

Lucy Gordan:

A former editor at the American Academy in Rome (1970-1980) and consultant for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (1981-1986), Lucy Gordan has been a member of Associazione della Stampa Estera in Italia (Foreign Press Association) since 1988 and a non-resident member of the National Press Club in Washington D.C. since 1990.

   She is Culture Editor of Inside the Vatican and a regular contributor to Epicurean Traveler, German Life, KMT: a modern journal of ancient Egypt, and La Madia, an Italian eno-gastromonic and travel monthly.

   Lucy is a member of IFW&TWA (International Food, Wine, and Travel Writers Association). Her freelance articles have appeared in Art & Antiques, The Baltimore Sun, New York Daily News, The New York Observer, The European, Denver Post, Cucina italiana (the English edition), Qantas's Australian Way, Book, Antiquarian Book Monthly, United's Hemispheres, EgyptAir's Horus, Gulf Air's Golden Falcon and Bahrain Gateway, Singapore Airlines' SilverKris, US Air's Attaché, Sabena's Passport, Diversion, Europe, Travel Agent Magazine, Period Living and Traditional Homes, Delta's Sky, There, Renaissance, Wilson Library Bulletin, Poets & Writers, Bookdealer, and Biblio.  In 1997 Italica Press in New York City published Sparrow, her translation of Giovanni Verga's first successful novel.

Patricia Guy:

Patricia Guy worked as a television director for several years, when during a long, rambling holiday in France, she stopped to work as a grape picker in Avize, a village in Champagne, and returned to New York with new career goals. She subsequently took several wine-related jobs in Paris and London . In 1991 she moved to Verona where she has lived blissfully ever since with her husband Michael and Ed the dog.

 Dr. Andrew Linick:             

Dr. Andrew Linick is an award-winning photojournalist, and the author of over 550 articles and 12 books. Known as “The Travelologist,” he is the travel and fitness editor for Epicurean-Traveler and the international travel features editor and restaurant critic for ThirdCoastTravel.com.

     A noted restaurant critic and travel and entertainment editor of The Practical Gourmet, chairman of the prestigious 2-5 Star Gold-Taste Dining Awards Committee, Andrew is the co-publisher of The Practical Gourmet. Dr. Linick has been a contributing editor and/or professional photographer to dozens of trade and consumer publications — including Travel Agent Magazine, Travel Weekly, Meeting News, and Jax Fax. He has published syndicated columns in Copley News Service, ASTA Travel News, The Practical Gourmet, Epicurean-Traveler.com, Affluent Gourmet Traveler, Total Fitness, CrossTrainer, Muscular Development, and Family Circle. He is also a columnist for six major martial arts magazines.

     Andrew is the author/publisher of more than 12 books — including Guide to Trouble-Free Travel, Trade Secrets of a Successful Freelance Photographer, and PictureProfits Toolkit (8th edition) — 15 monographs, and over 450 magazine articles.

     Dr. Linick is retained by food-product development companies, agencies, and think tanks to provide innovative ideas. An engaging speaker, he conducts seminars and workshops worldwide, and he has been a professional judge at numerous food competitions, festivals, and worldwide culinary events. Bill Marsano:

Bill is an award-winning travel writer, and a veteran writer on wine and spirits. Among the numerous magazines to which he contributes are Hemispheres, the in-flight magazine of United Airlines, Food & Wine, Saveur , and Spirits & Cocktails. He has won the Lowell Thomas Award for travel writing, and a James Beard Award for wine and spirits writing. When not on the road he makes his home in New York.

 

Steve Pitcher:

Steve is a freelance wine writer based in San Francisco , where he serves as vice president of the Vintners Club and president of the local chapter of the German Wine Society. His work appears regularly in The Wine News , and he has been the wine columnist for Sally's Place (www.bpe.com) since 1995.

 

Hank Rubin:

Before he turned to journalism, Hank was a professional jelly taster, as well as a restaurateur (his Pot Luck restaurant in Berkeley was one of a small group that gave birth to California Cuisine in the '60's). For 17 years he was wine columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and is a former wine editor of Bon Appetit magazine, as well as a cooking teacher. He is the author of The Kitchen Answer Book, a 2003 selection of The Book of the Month Club. He lives in San Francisco with his wife, author Lillian Rubin.

 

Charles Scicolone:

Charles is wine director of New York's i Trulli Restaurant and Enoteca, is a wine educator and writer, and the co-author of the newly released Pizza Any Way You Slice It! He is also one of America's foremost authorities on Italian wine and grappa.

 

Michele Scicolone:

Michele is the author of five Italian cookbooks, including A Fresh Taste of Italy which was nominated for a Julia Child Cookbook Award. She is a cooking teacher and writes for such national publications as Gourmet; Saveur and the New York Times . She lives with her husband Charles in Brooklyn, New York .

 

Steven Van Yoder:

Steve is a San Francisco based freelance food, wine, and travel writer. He is a regular contributor to Wine X Magazine, and has published articles in Wines & Vines, Food & Beverage Journal, and Epicurean, as well as Sally's Place on the Web. He hosts a "Culinary Adventures" site on America Online and is the author of The Wine Brats Guide To Living With Wine (St. Martins Press).
